Extremis was founded in 1994 by Dirk Wynants, a carpenter's son, in the Flemish countryside of West Flanders. Its first piece, the Gargantua table, set the tone: furniture meant for sharing.

Wynants has designed most of the range, including the Hopper picnic table, inspired by the hop fields of the Westhoek, and the Panigiri and Manille tables. The company calls its pieces tools for togetherness. They are designed and made in Belgium, in wood, powder-coated metal and lava stone, and built to last.
