Study of a Butterfly

Cho means butterfly in Japanese, and the shape follows from it. The designers studied what happens when pressure is added to an oval sheet of paper, and kept the result: a shade with two curved pressings, wedged gently into a slim metal frame.

Light shade, solid steel base, white against colour. Motarasu is a Danish design house that brings Danish and Japanese designers together under one brand, with a shared taste for minimal form and careful craft. The shade changes as you move around it, which is the point.
