An Octagon, Without Wire

Shizuku is a reimagining of the traditional round paper lantern: an equilateral octagon formed through heat treatment alone, without a wire structure. Shizuku means drop in Japanese.

The shade comes from Mito, known as one of the main regions for paper lantern craft. The exterior is treated to repel water and stains, and the frame is PET resin. Motarasu is a Danish design house that brings Danish and Japanese designers together under one brand, with a shared taste for minimal form and careful craft.

Materials & Care

The shade is washi paper with a stain-preventing coating, cast in PET resin without a wire structure. The cone-shaped top is Hiba wood with a natural oil finish.
