Hemp and Eelgrass
Mat explores how to make a contemporary shell chair with a lower environmental impact than the industry norm. The shell is crafted from hemp and eelgrass, a type of seaweed. The eelgrass is collected where it washes ashore along the coasts of Denmark, then dried.
The materials shape the look as well as the footprint, and bring out natural beauty and tactility. The collection is designed for disassembly and recycling, so its components can be recycled into new production.
